Do you want to make a difference to Netball?

As I come to the end of my time on the England Netball Board, it is good to reflect on the experience.  I’ve found being a Director of England Netball hugely rewarding; it is with enormous pride that I’ve watched the England Team succeed on court; participation grow and England Netball, as an organisation, strengthen and develop culminating this year with the NGB of the year award.  In addition, I’ve learnt a lot personally about running a business and teamwork as well as establishing good friendships; I would recommend the experience of being a Board Director to anyone.

England Netball’s Directors and staff recognise that there are enormous quantities of volunteers that work tirelessly in netball, on national, regional, county, league and club committees and technical advisory groups, at tournaments, matches and events, coaching and generally providing an environment in which participants can excel and safely enjoy the game.  Inevitably, it is easier to find volunteers to contribute to organising the game rather than governing and driving the strategic direction of the organisation.  It is for this reason, I’m now personally writing to all members to ask you to consider whether you have the appropriate skills, expertise, time and commitment to become a Director of England Netball.

Governing the game and driving the strategic direction is not solely down to the Board of Directors; England Netball has a series of committees and advisory forums that provide feedback, recommendations and advise on EN initiatives and/or specific areas of expertise at a National level and has similar structures at Regions and Counties.  Therefore, if you think that, at this stage, you don’t have the appropriate skills, expertise, time or commitment to become a Director, the sport could still benefit from your contribution, please do not hesitate to contact Paul Clark, CEO or Vicky Annis, Company Secretary to discuss the opportunities for volunteers to get involved within the governance structures.  England Netball is an equal opportunities organisation and will welcome any volunteers with suitable qualifications and experience regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

Attached to this email is some information about England Netball’s governance structure and the nominations process for the Director vacancies.  If you would like to have an informal chat about the Director positions, please do not hesitate to contact me (cheryl.danson@englandnetball.co.uk).  If you do have the appropriate skills, expertise, time and commitment, I’d encourage you to submit a nomination and I hope you find the experience as enjoyable and fulfilling as I have.
